The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio Pro 2 is a file-based deck that records uncompressed in QuickTime and compressed in ProRes and DNxHD, storing the files onto two 2.5" SSDs. Two SSD slots are available and allow continuous recording--the second disk automatically begins recording when the first becomes full. The disks can afterwards be hooked up to a computer by USB.

A diverse set of connections consists of 3G SDI, component, HDMI, XLR, RCA, Thunderbolt, USB and RS422. SD, HD, and 2K formats are supported, and capacity is additionally available for 4K playback from an SSD in ProRes. Color options are SD and HD 10-bit 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. Recording in 4:2:2 uncompressed offers higher dynamic range and thus more precision in color correction. Alternatively, recording in compressed ProRes or DNxHD allows five times longer recording and all the same maintains 10-bit color and full frame 1920 x 1080 sampling.

The panel controls and overall functionality of the HyperDeck Studio Pro are very similar to those of traditional tape decks. The transport buttons are illuminated crystal; a jog/shuttle wheel is available; and an integrated LCD displays timecode and transport information, full color thumbnail previews of the clips being recorded or played back, and also format, frame rate, and audio levels.

File-Based VTR Functionality

  • Records 10-bit compressed in ProRes / DNxHD
  • Stores to 2 SSDs; switches to the 2nd when 1st is full
  • In/out: 3G SDI, component, HDMI, XLR, RCA, Thunderbolt
  • SD, HD, and 2K support, and 4K playback from an SSD in ProRes
  • LCD displays timecode, format, frame rate, audio levels, transport info, and thumbnail clip previews

HyperDeck Studio Pro records 4:2:2 SD/HD, 4:4:4 RGB and 2K, all in full uncompressed quality. Use ProRes or DNxHD compression for high quality HD video in file sizes that provide 5 times longer recording. HyperDeck Studio Pro features 3Gb/s SDI, HDMI and analog component connections, plus professional XLR audio and built-in Thunderbolt connectivity. It includes a built-in power supply for convenience and the 1 rack unit size fits easily into any studio or portable rack!

Continuous SSD Recording

HyperDeck Studio’s single rack unit size fits easily into any equipment rack, flyaway kit or OB vehicle, and is great if you want to record or play back with live production switchers. With dual SSD slots you get unlimited duration recording, when a record disk fills then recording will automatically continue on to the next disk. Now you can record an entire event without missing a thing! HyperDeck Studio Pro also includes a Thunderbolt connection so you can capture directly into a computer or master to SSD! With uncompressed, ProRes and DNxHD video formats HyperDeck Studio is the broadcast deck for the 21st century!

Professional Video Connections

HyperDeck Studio includes the highest quality 3 Gb/s SDI and HDMI connections, so you can connect to virtually any camera, monitor or SDI router. Connect your camera’s HDMI or SDI output and record the highest 10-bit uncompressed video, bypassing compression formats that cameras use to reduce file size. HyperDeck Studio’s HDMI output is perfect for connecting to monitors and projectors. HyperDeck Studio Pro includes analog component video and XLR audio connections, plus 4 x 3 Gb/s SDI connections for high bandwidth SDI formats!

Fast SSD Technology

HyperDeck Studio uses 2.5″ solid state disks (SSDs) for reliable, fast video recording. Now you can eliminate complicated and expensive disk arrays, as a single SSD lets you record either compressed or uncompressed video effortlessly! You can even edit direct from the disk! SSDs are extremely robust because they have no moving parts and can handle shocks and vibrations that would destroy conventional hard drives or videotapes. Other removable media cards simply cannot match the level of performance and incredibly fast read/write speed of SSDs.
